Here to share you my favorite fried rice recipe that I always make at home

Indonesian Fried Rice Nasi Goreng Recipe

Ingredients:

2 cloves of garlic
2 cloves of shallots
2 red curly chilies, sliced (optional)
1 tsp of sambal belacan or more to taste (shrimp paste chili)
3 cups cooked day old Rice
3 egg
2 spring onions, sliced
2 tbsp kecap manis or sweet soy sauce (my go to is ABC Kecap Manis)
4 tsp fish sauce (or if you don't have, you can substitute with soy sauce)
¼ tsp Pepper
40 gr Cabbage, sliced - optional

Protein of choice:

5 oz of chicken breast cubed OR bacon cut up OR shrimp OR sausage OR Tofu
1 tbs oil
1 tbs kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)

Instruction:

  1. Marinate protein of choice with sweet soy sauce and oil
  2. Puree the garlic, shallots and oil, blend until smooth. OR when I'm in a rush, I would just diced garlic and shallots
  3. Stir fry garlic and shallot with 1 tbs of oil
  4. Sautee until fragrant. Add curly red chilies if using
  5. Mix egg in a bowl and add the eggs to pan.
  6. Add protein of choice stir well. If using chicken/shrimp/bacon, then stiry fry until 3/4 cook
  7. Add rice, stir well then add fish sauce, pepper, sweet soy sauce, cabbage and stir well. Add sambal belacan to taste - start with 1 tsp of sambal and adjust to taste
  8. Turn off fire, add spring onion and mix well
  9. Fried rice is ready to be served. Typically served with cucumber or fried egg or chicken satay
